Christopher Wray

Baritone

Chris was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire in 1982, his first experiences in music were at an early age when he began attending the William Appleby Music Centre. He learnt the ’cello, tuba and piano, and he enjoyed playing in many ensembles including the National Youth Orchestra and Brass Band. He first studied singing when he was 17 with Carey Williams, before being accepted to study at Trinity College of Music, London. There he studied with soprano Laureen Livingstone and international vocal coach Helen Yorke. He graduated from Trinity in 2004 with a first class honours degree in Music Performance.

At Trinity Chris had the opportunity to perform with the TCM Opera Group taking on roles such as Figaro in the Marriage of Figaro, Seneca and Familiari in Monteverdi’s Coronation of Poppea, Ludwig in Cabaret and the title role Corpo in Cavelieri’s Rappresentazione di Anima et di Corpo. He sang with chamber choir, including tours to Italy, Spain and France where he was the baritone soloist in Faure’s Requiem in Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris.

As a member of the Early Music Ensemble he discovered a love for early music and has performed with many groups in London including the Marisienne Consort and The Rose Consort of Viols plus his own co-founded ensembles El Escorial and La Creazione. Since graduating Chris has been involved in several recordings with Chandos, Opera Rara and Hyperion singing with the Geoffrey Mitchell Choir and The English Concert amongst others.

Recent concert engagements include, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and Dixit Dominus plus a solo recital in the Bath Pump Room.
