Levon Chilingirian

Violin

Levon Chilingirian was born in Cyprus and studied at the RCM in London. In 1971 he formed the Chilingirian Quartet which is today one of the most internationally celebrated string quartets.

Levon also performs as a soloist and regularly directs orchestras such as the Gothenburg Symphony, the Guildhall Strings and the Armenian Chamber Orchestra. He is the artistic director of the Pharos Festival (Cyprus) and is active in coaching chamber music at the Lake District Summer School, West Dean, and in many other Festivals and Courses in Europe and North America. Levon is professor of violin and chamber music at the Guildhall School and the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London.

After chairing the Jury in the Trondheim Quartet Competition, he made a tour of North America giving concerts and master classes in major centres such as New York and Yale University. He has just returned from Domaine Forget in Canada where he played chamber music with highly talented young players from Canada and the US. Levon plays on a Francesco Rugeri violin dated 1679.
