Faversham: Saturday evening Musique Cordiale MESSIAH

Musique-Cordiale weekend in Faversham & Newnham

Musique Cordiale weekend of Song – choral, orchestral & chamber music in Kent

3 concerts in Newnham and Faversham  SUMMARY:

Musique Cordiale in Kent 2019 FLYER

Gradually the heat and musical memories of the magnificent 2019 festival in Provence have ebbed. But we are planning another weekend of ‘music & rencontre cordiale’  in November.  Graham Ross (director of Music at Clare College, Cambridge and our choral maestro in the summer over several years) is conducting again and we will have, as usual, a Musique Cordiale orchestra made up of terrific players (though on a smaller scale than in the Festival  – to suit Handel’s original idea for the Messiah).  We are thrilled that two of this summer’s soloists, Dima Bawab and Freddie Long, will be joining us as well as Aidan Coburn, a favourite from last year, and we are excited to welcome Katie Bray, audience prize winner at the Cardiff Singer of the World 2019, who joins us for the Mezzo role this time. Our orchestra is again led by Colette Overdijk, currently of the City of Birmingham Symphony, and she will perform with other familiar Musique-Cordiale musicians in a Mozart String Quartet on Friday when the choir will also sing an international a capella selection as well as the Messiah on Saturday. Our final concert also features Dima and Aidan, accompanied by the formidable pianist, Toby Hession, and is in honour of Sir Roger Moate, a great supporter of Musique Cordiale who hosted our musicians after the Faversham concert in 2018 but who died this Spring. The concert takes place in the lovely Assembly Rooms whose restoration was one of his achievements (along with the peel of bells in Newnham church). Not everyone agreed with his position on Europe but he was a lovely and loyal friend of Faversham, Newnham and of Musique-Cordiale.

Newnham – Friday evening MC choral concert 2018

The Musique Cordiale autumn weekend in Kent is organised by the Musique-Cordiale International Festival & Academy, which principally offers an exciting 2-week summer festival of classical music, song, oratorio and opera, set in medieval hill towns in Provence. The weekend in Kent features some of the artists, musicians and the choir and orchestra of the annual summer festival which has taken place in France for the past 15 years. This weekend in Kent is also a long-standing set of events, first staged in 2005 (with the Bach B Minor Mass in Faversham church) and recently annually with 3 concerts each November. The organisers live locally.

SUPPORT US: as always, we must add that everything that we all love about Musiqiue Cordiale, both in France and in Britain, runs on a terribly over-tight budget. Please do not take us for granted, even after 15 years: our future is far from assured without EXTRA SUPPORT THIS AUTUMN from people who value what we do. So your generosity, if you can spare any additional funds, towards our charity, The Musique-Cordiale Trust, is invaluable. So many people say how much they value our concerts and our contribution to the opportunities for people with musical talents to play with orchestra professionals, to learn from those with experience or to witness the delights of singing or playing in a multi-cultural context – or to enhance the cultural opportunities and life in the special places where we rehearse and perform. Please help to ensure that this can all survive and thrive! UK tax-payers are invited to download and complete a Gift Aid declaration for their contributions as Friends or Donors. (Participation fees, accommodation, tickets & basic membership are not ‘Gift-Aidable’ )
