Sunday 26 November Doddington
- 12 noon Chamber Music Concert, Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist, Doddington, Kent
- 13.30 Lunch, Doddington Village Hall
We have chosen Handel’s Messiah because it is a work most of you know and, with Graham’s magic, we will be able to put it together quickly! Graham has the Baerenreiter Edition parts but, if you have Novello or another edition, this will not matter.
There will be a fairly intensive rehearsal day for the choir on Friday, with a sing-through at the end of the day including some of the most well-known choruses to entertain the local community. So as to remain in the summer spirit, this will be followed by wine and food! The orchestra and soloists will arrive on Saturday.
For those of you who require accommodation on Friday and Saturday nights, there will be the possibility to stay (as last years) in the Palace Farmhouse in Doddington or at a choice of one of the very up-market B&B’s nearby. For those coming from abroad, you may also choose to arrive on Thursday.
We are aware that some of you will only be able to come on Saturday because of other commitments. This is, of course, fine – though do have a look at the notes because, despite its familiarity, the Messiah is not all that easy to sing – and you can imagine Graham’s tempi will be fairly speedy!
Our administrator: many of you already know that Hannah is working in Germany until next summer. So, we would like to introduce Barbara Hooijmeijer (firstname.lastname@example.org) as the new Festival Administrator. At the moment Barbara works with a well-known theatre company in France, ‘Les Trèteaux de France’, designing and managing the costumes for the company. Last year she took over partial responsibility for the organisation of the tours for the company. She is in England as we write this and will be taking over the responsibility for the smooth running of the festival, her first big task being our Autumn reunion and Messiah!
We are very much looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in November although we know it is the start, for many of you singers, of the very busy Advent Season.
Sing the Messiah: PRICES & BOOKING ARRANGEMENTS
We have tried to minimise the prices but there is a lot that we have to pay for. Even with some likely help from our charity, The Musique-Cordiale Trust, which also has to preserve funds to cover student bursaries and its big contribution to support the Festival & Academy next year, the participation fee to join the choir in Kent has to cover our costs. These include running the events, renting spaces (with heat) and some instruments, attracting soloists, orchestra players and our popular conductor – as well as licenses and publicity. Those who came last year will remember the range of friendly accommodation options and the plentiful warming food & drink. We aim to offer the same quality and welcome again – but for a little longer as, this time, it is not a re-performance of what many of you rehearsed and sang in the summer. And, like you, we do want to put on our usual high-calibre show!
You can find the details of prices and options on the booking forms. Please use the ‘enrol’ button to go to the online form (or return the printed booking forms) as early as possible before 22 October. Click the button below to complete the simple ONLINE BOOKING. You can make all payment arrangements online at the same time: this will be the best way to keep our records straight and to let us have your booking and any special requests as simply and quickly as possible. You can alternatively download and print off a PDF of the booking forms here and either scan and return them by email or complete and send them off to us (with a deposit or full payment). If you have made special requests, you can send us a booking form (either online below or the PDF) and a deposit and we will do our best to match your preferences and then send you an invoice for any outstanding balance. Please go ahead and BOOK NOW: we look forward to seeing you in Kent in November!
