Choir & orchestra

Please join or rejoin us this summer to sing!

Musique-Cordiale in Kent:

Concerts 29 July – 3 August 2022

This year’s magnum opus will be:

Gioachino Rossini‘s Petite messe solennelle (Little solemn mass)

(not notably little or solemn, actually!

We would again like to invite and welcome good and/or experienced singers to join or rejoin the Musique-Cordiale Festival Choir in Kent, GB this summer. Please contact us if you are interested (or can recommend others!)

Rehearsals start at 2:30 PM on Thursday 28 July.
To be conducted by Graham Ross, Music Director of Clare College, Cambridge, whom we are thrilled to have back to direct and inspire the choir and orchestra for another year, with soloists to be announced, to be accompanied by piano & accordion, to be performed in Doddington Place Gardens  – with a little amplification and cover for performers, as required.

Music: Bärenreiter edition, if possible please. (Other repertoire info to follow).

Other works for the choir this time:

After due consultation, Pippa and Graham have decided upon an a cappella programme:

  • Sethus Calvisius     Singet dem Herrn
  • Vaughan Williams    Serenade to music with piano & violin
  • J S Bach     Singet dem Herrn

We hope this will please our singers and audiences alike.  The Calvisius was Graham’s idea and the Serenade came from Owen  Hanmer in this, the VW centenary. How could we argue?!? We will provide details of how to obtain this music soon.

Please enrol ASAP! And, especially, book accommodation too. Enrolment deadline 10 June 2022

In 2022, our 18th year, we regret that we were not yet ready (planning has to begin the previous autumn) to return to France this summer (though some of our younger musicians and organisers are on hand to try to achieve that in 2023. Instead, we are following the pattern set In 2021, when we re-emerged… with a smaller but no less exciting mini-festival, which took place mainly out of doors in Kent GB, 29 July-5 August 2021including Mozart Requiem & Vivaldi Gloria
(and a lovely varied concert in Faversham in December)

So, for this year, we hope that you will now join or re-join us for rehearsals, concerts and much conviviality, 28 July – 4 August 2022.

2022 Summer Choir booking form is BELOW:
Please enrol ASAP (and please reserve your accommodation independently ASAP too).

closing date for choir enrolment and payment: 10 June 2022
Meanwhile, if you are free and nearby, do consider coming to our exciting special Jubilee concert on 4 June 2022, featuring the Musique-Cordiale Festival Orchestra, conducted by Graham Ross and some of our favorite soloists and tunes in a lovely familiar setting!

As usual since 2005, Musique Cordiale consisted (in its reduced form in Britain in 2020 and 2021) of a professional orchestra and soloists, performing a variety of other works as well as accompanying the experienced but largely-amateur choir under the professional direction of conductor Graham Ross. But as in previous (and, we hope, future) years, the whole ensemble has not yielded completely to the Covid-19 pandemic and continued to perform major choral masterpieces, usually in both International Musique Cordiale Festival in the Pays de Fayence in southern France and Musique-Cordiale in Kent in England. Below is information from the most recent full festival in France:

In  2018 it was Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten (The Seasons) …and in summer 2019,  the big choral work was Handel’s SAUL. In 2020, we had a whole new set of choral works for the choir … but, following the cancellation of the 2020 festival in France, we managed only a single outdoor concert – and 2 days of rehearsal in beautiful sunny (yes) Kent, GB – but we managed to produce a memorable performance of the Brahms Requiem in September 2020.

For details of the 2020 Festival and arrangements/enrolment for the choir, singing the Brahms Requiem
plus other choral works
and an exciting a cappella programme*,  please follow this LINK
