Admirable Aspirations – a 17-year record of valuable achievement in Pan-European musical and cultural exchange & education – a Labour of Love – Modest Means
If you value Musique Cordlale for its unique international festival and its orchestral academy for young musical talent – or its choral & singing courses, concerts and events in France and Britain, we need your help. Even after 17 years, it cannot continue without your support, especially after 2020-21 and Covid-19. The French association (which has run our festivals) & The Musique-Cordiale Trust, the British charity which supports it, need you for this campaign. Between us, we must hit a £50,000 annual target for EXTRA FUNDS before next summer – and preferably earlier to give us the resources to explore new ideas, plan ahead – and make savings – in difficult circumstances as we build anew in 2022. Thank you to those who have already helped by donating, pledging or raising money or by arranging events and inviting your friends to help. WHY NOT BECOME A FRIEND or DONOR? Or SPONSOR an event or musician?
A huge amount of year-round, voluntary work is involved to organise all our musical activities. Most of this is done by a team of dedicated volunteers. Although supported and valued by its participants and audiences, both locally and from all over Europe, Musique Cordiale NEEDS TO SUPPLEMENT ITS INCOME from ticket sales, subscriptions, some hard-won local funding in the face of shrinking public budgets and the generosity of a few private donors ad trusts. It is an enormous struggle to cover the costs of bringing over 100 musicians and singers from across the continent to the Pays de Fayence and accommodating and sustaining them – as well as working them hard to achieve great music together. It was also expensive to organise and then have to cancel the 2020 festival and to stage our only musical events with no box office income in 2020. Even in 2021, when we did stage a week of concerts, Musique-Cordiale in Kent, we could operate only in England without access to our usual supporters, ticket sales and popular musical fund-raising events in France. Silver and Gold Circle Donors constitute our special group of supporters who help secure the future of the festival or other musical events by committing to a major donation or regular giving. Donors are invited to contribute to the general funds needed to run the Musique Cordiale (a big year-round task) or may choose to make a specific donation, for example to sponsor a particular concert or musician, an Academy tutor or a seat within the orchestra, to cover the hire of a grand piano or to offer a bursary for an Academy student, ensuring that we can invite the most promising young musicians regardless of their financial situation. Specific donations must fit the charitable goals of the Trust or association; we would be delighted to discuss your ideas with you.
(++Gift Aid and tax deductibility do not apply to the membership element of a Donor or Friend subscription)
One of the most expensive parts of all our events is accommodating musicians nearby. Our festivals have required this for over 100 musicians in and around Seillans. We are immensely grateful to those supporters who offer to host musicians at no cost and are pleased to be able to offer them festival passes or tickets in recognition of their generosity. If you are interested in offering accommodation, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and send us an email.
