Colette Overdijk

Musician, Violin

Colette Overdijk grew up in the Netherlands in the beautiful city of Amersfoort where she started playing the violin when she was seven years old. Currently she is a member of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Previously she held positions at the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway.

Besides her full-time job she plays as much chamber music as she can, works regularly with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, teaches at Birmingham University, is involved in Music Exchange (an initiative aimed at relieving dementia through music) and translates for the online music library IMSLP. In the past year she guest-led Scottish Ballet.

Her Master Degree was obtained at the Royal College of Music, learning with Jan Repko. In the Netherlands she received her Bachelor Degree, studying at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, learning with Ilona Sie Dhian Ho. Besides music, she loves cooking (and watching cooking shows) and exploring new places!
