Jonathan Martindale

Jonathan Martindale enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral principal. He is the Assistant Leader of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and has appeared with the orchestra throughout China and Japan as well as at the BBC Proms, and Aldeburgh Festivals. He has also led the orchestra on a number of occasions and performed as a soloist.

In 2006 Jonathan co-founded the Eblana String Trio which has gone on to perform regularly throughout the UK as well as in Europe and South Africa. The trio are currently Park Lane Group artists and recent highlights include performances at the Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, and the Bridgewater Hall Manchester, as well as live performances on BBC Radio 3. Jonathan has also performed as a chamber musician with pianist Steven Osborne and acclaimed violist Thomas Riebl, as well as in the chamber ensembles of Manchester Camerata and Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Prior to joining the CBSO Jonathan was Principal Second Violin (no.2) with the Royal Northern Sinfonia in Newcastle with whom he also appeared as a soloist, as well as regularly performing in the chamber ensemble. Since 2011 he has also been a member of Manchester Camerata.
