Samuel Pantcheff, baritone

Baritone Samuel Pantcheff won the Blythe-Buesst Opera Prize whilst studying at Royal Academy Opera with Glenville Hargreaves and Audrey Hyland. Samuel currently studies with Katharine Goeldner and is a BrittenPears Young Artist. He is currently a member of the solo ensemble at Salzburger Landestheater for the 21/22 season

Operatic experience includes Pulcino BambinO (Scottish Opera), Juan Juliana (Nova Music Opera), Papageno and Sprecher Die Zauberflöte, Scherazmin Oberon, Dritte Brabantischer Edler Lohengrin, Simon Fuller-Bull Viva la Diva (Salzburger Landestheater), Onegin Eugene Onegin (OperaUpClose), Leporello Don Giovanni (Head First Productions), Lumaca La scuola de gelosi (Bampton Classical Opera), Sharpless Madam Butterfly (King’s Head Theatre), The King Eight Songs for a Mad King (Grimeborn Festival; Saint Petersburg Philharmonia), Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte (Pop-Up Opera), The Younger Gentleman Exposition of a Picture (Buxton Festival), Aeneas Dido and Aeneas (RAO), Fiorello Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Cadogan Hall), Ben The Telephone (The Opera Box), and L’horloge comtoise/Le chat L’enfant et les sortileges (BBCSO; Barbican).

Roles for this season include Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos, Medico Macbeth, Papageno Die Zauberflöte, and Joseph Pitt Angels in America (Eötvös).

Samuel is an experienced oratorio soloist and recitalist. 2018 saw him perform Bach Cantatas as a soloist with Sir John Eliot Gardiner in venues across Europe such as The Concertgebouw, Vienna Musikverein, Cologne Philharmonic, Bach Fest (Leipzig), and Barbican. Other concert highlights include bass solos in Purcell’s Ode to Saint Cecilia with John Butt and the Dunedin Consort, Bach’s Cantata BWV74 and BWV106 (‘Actus Tragicus’) for the RAM/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series, and Handel’s Messiah at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg with the Johannesburg Concert Orchestra. Samuel was a soloist on a tour of Israel with the Israel Camerata and Avner Biron, performing Bach’s St Matthew Passion. He appeared at Musique Cordiale in Seillans in the Andre Staples production of La Boheme in 2011.

Recital highlights include Schubert songs at St Martin-in-the-fields, London for the Royal Academy’s prestigious Song Circle, Schubert’s Winterreise, Schumann’s Dichterliebe, a recital of Beethoven Songs, French Song recital at the Institut Francais, and two recitals for SONG IN THE CITY with Gavin Roberts.
