Levon Chilingirian

Violin

Levon Chilingirian was born in Cyprus and studied in London. In1971 he formed the Chilingirian Quartet which is today one of the most internationally celebrated string quartets. Levon also performs as a soloist and regularly directs orchestras such as the Gothenburg Symphony, the Guildhall Strings and the Armenian Chamber Orchestra. He is the artistic director of the Pharos Festival (Cyprus) and is active in coaching chamber music at the Lake District Summer School, West Dean, and in many other Festivals and Courses in Europe and North America. Levon is professor of violin and chamber music at the Guildhall School and the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 2017 he will chair the jury in the Trondheim Quartet Competition and will also be on the jury for the Osaka Competition. Levon plays on a Francesco Rugeri violin dated 1679.
