Philip Saudek began to learn piano at an early age from his father and from Frederick Bailey and later took up the violin. After graduating in philosophy from Oxford University he studied violin at the RAM, London with Sydney Humphreys.
He worked as a freelance violinist in London for several years before resuming his violin studies with Sandor Vegh at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. During this time he found work as a pianist accompanying Vegh’s class in the Mozarteum, later becoming Vegh’s assistant. He remained there in the string department as accompanist and piano teacher. He has given concerts as a duo partner in Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan and China.
